AC not working in cab

Here is the condensed version of the expanded troubleshooting tree.

Issue

AC/Heat unit not working

Cause

The AC unit not working can be caused by multiple problems, follow the procedures in the resolution notes to find out what is wrong with the unit, or if it need replaced

Resolution

  1. Check the circuit breakers that control the AC and heat units
    2. Check phase detector inside AC unit to be sure it has 2 lights
    3. Replace AC controller to the left of seat
    4. Check to see if the Condenser fan on the back of the cab runs when AC is selected, if not, check the fuses
    5. Try using the “Defrost” setting and see if the AC turns on
    6. Access AC unit and check to see if all the sensors are connected and working properly
    7. If you cannot figure out why the AC unit is not running, order a new unit and replace it

Crane lost slew function AFE1 Code on slew drive

Crane lost slew function. AFE1 displayed permanently on screen. If cleared, drive would shut down. Checked voltage at XD24-2 24V connection on slew drive. Voltage was present but not 24V. Checked XD24-1 connection at slew drive Voltage was present but not 24V. Removed the XD24-2 wire are rechecked and voltage was 24V. Determined K600M Contactor was faulty.
If a new contactor isn’t available. K466M (motor preheat contactor) is the same and doesn’t use the 13/14 connections. This a great contactor to use to get the crane up and running.

3381 code on Slew Drive

According to ABB drive manual

Code: 3381

Fault: Output phase loss
Programmable fault: 31.19

Probable Cause: Motor phase loss
Motor circuit fault due to
missing motor connection (all
three phases are not
connected).

What to do:  Connect motor cable.

K600M contactor was not energizing

Transition 4

When operator would stop swinging, the Slew Drive would shut off just before or just after the brake would set.  NO active faults, but fault history showed code 00011.10002 Transition 4.

Verified DIIL input to slew drive.

Per Refik, changed Parameter 21.01 (21 – Start/stop mode .01 – Start mode) in drive from “Automatic” to “Constant Time”

Password: 1202

Disabling AMCS Anti-Collision

After another crane is removed from the job site, this is the procedure to disable AMCS anti-collision system

Locate the main AMCS

Switch off the silver toggle

Disable Anti-Collision in the CCS Configuration Menu (an “X” through the icon means its disabled)

Hoist safety brake: Kept open

02061.00048 Hoist safety brake Kept open

Problem:

This fault was a recurring fault in the fault history log. The fault would clear the active fault log when the crane was in use and only appear when the crane was turned off.  (Switched off from the remote or an Estop command input)

Solution:

Determine if the crane is fitted with optional “SAFETY BRAKE”  If fitted: follow directions in CCS Manual to correct the fault.

If not fitted, check the configuration of the crane and determine if the safety brake option is not active.

If active, De-select the option

and restart the crane.  Fault code with be removed.

Slew Drive shuts off during acceleration

Slew drive starts up normally, and begins to swing, but coasts to stop and drive shuts down with code 7510 (FBA A comm loss func).  Could not get code to clear or swing to operate.  Checked CanOPEN card and both status lights looked good.  FEN 31 (encoder card) also had 2 green lights, but tried to remove encoder connectors and still could not get to work.  Per JP’s recommendation, remove LFC and CCL plugs and install jumpers.  Remove network cables from Trolley and Hoist drives.  Restart crane and test swing, and it works normally with no faults.  Plugged back in trolley network cable, and swing would still work.  Plugged in Hoist network cable and Swing drive would fault without Hoist drive even being turned on.  It was determined that there was a fault in the keypad of the Hoist drive.  Replace keypad and crane worked normally.

*For notes.  JP determined there was a fault in the communication system (FBA A Field Bus Adapter), but wanted to isolate what it was.  It was a communication fault through the Can Bus system.  By isolating just the swing drive and swing encoder, we could start to determine it was either of those.  If the Hoist keypad hadn’t caused failure, we would have added back the LFC and CCL plugs 1 at a time to determine if it was a communication fault in the drives, or encoders which also communicate through the Can Bus.  Also note that CAN H and CAN L should produce approx 2.5 VDC to “-” on terminal strip.  This could determine if there is a short to ground.  If the voltage is 0 or low, begin unplugging devices until voltage is restored
